“Everyone must join hands to protect the environment and make the state greener. Every home should grow and maintain plants,” Shivakumar said.
The Chief Minister also revealed that he, along with Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, planted a sapling earlier in the day at Bengaluru Airport to mark World Environment Day.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to increasing green cover across Karnataka, Shivakumar announced a major plantation initiative on the occasion of Kempegowda Jayanti.
He said the Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) will organize Kempegowda Jayanti celebrations on June 27, during which an ambitious campaign to plant 15 lakh saplings across Bengaluru and other parts of the state will be undertaken.
The initiative is expected to contribute significantly to enhancing urban green cover, improving air quality and strengthening Karnataka’s climate resilience efforts.
The Chief Minister emphasized that large-scale tree plantation drives, coupled with public participation, are essential to safeguarding the environment for future generations and addressing the growing challenges posed by climate change.
The announcement comes as Karnataka intensifies its focus on sustainable urban development, environmental protection and ecological conservation under the state’s broader green governance initiatives.
