Bengaluru, June 4: Bengaluru has completed nearly 72 per cent of the mapping work required for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, and all necessary preparations are in place to ensure a smooth and accurate voter list revision exercise, District Election Officer and Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao said on Wednesday.

Addressing a press conference on the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, Rao said extensive groundwork has already been completed across Bengaluru’s jurisdiction, with 72 per cent of voter list mapping work finished. Directions have been issued to complete the remaining mapping process at the earliest.

He said Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will soon begin door-to-door verification visits to collect and validate voter information through prescribed forms. Citizens have been urged to cooperate fully with officials during the exercise.

“The collected data will be verified and cross-checked before the draft electoral roll is published,” Rao said.

Ensuring Accurate and Error-Free Voter Lists

According to officials, the Election Commission of India has launched the Special Intensive Revision programme to ensure that all eligible voters are included in the electoral rolls while removing ineligible entries.

The revision process is being carried out strictly in accordance with the Election Commission’s guidelines.

Disposal of Pending Applications

As part of the preparatory work for SIR-2026, authorities are currently mapping the 2025 electoral rolls with the 2002 voter database.

Rao said necessary measures will be taken to dispose of all pending applications submitted under Forms 6, 6A, 7 and 8 before the E-Roll freeze scheduled for June 16, 2026, as directed by the Chief Electoral Officer, Karnataka.

Citizens have been requested to extend their cooperation in completing the process within the stipulated timeline.

Meetings with BLOs and Political Parties

Before the commencement of house-to-house surveys, Electoral Registration Officers and Booth Level Officers will conduct meetings with Booth Level Agents (BLAs) to explain the SIR schedule and related activities.

The Election Commission has also provided opportunities for political parties to actively participate in the revision process.

Political parties can submit up to 50 forms per day through BLOs until the publication of the draft electoral roll. After the draft roll is published, submissions will be restricted to a maximum of 10 forms per day.

Political Parties Asked to Nominate BLAs

Recognised and registered political parties have been requested to immediately appoint one Booth Level Agent for every polling station and submit their details to election authorities.

These agents will assist officials in ensuring that all eligible voters are enrolled in the electoral rolls.

Awareness Campaign Across Bengaluru

To increase public awareness about the Special Intensive Revision exercise, the administration will launch Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaigns and Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) activities across all city corporations.

Public awareness messages will also be disseminated through auto-tippers fitted with loudspeakers.

Mapping Progress in Bengaluru

The district-wise mapping status is as follows:

  • Bengaluru District: 78.93%
  • Bengaluru Central District: 67.53%
  • Bengaluru South District: 67.93%
  • Bengaluru North District: 69.23%

Overall Mapping Completed: 72%
