Bengaluru: Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) Chairman Dr. Ram Prasath Manohar has directed officials to complete all sewer desilting works across the city within the next 15 days as part of monsoon preparedness measures.
Chairing a pre-monsoon preparedness review meeting with senior officials at the BWSSB headquarters on Monday, Dr. Manohar instructed officials to ensure that citizens do not face inconvenience during the upcoming rainy season.
He stressed that preventing flooding in low-lying areas and avoiding manhole overflows during heavy rains must remain the top priority of the department.
Identify Flood-Prone Areas
Dr. Manohar directed officials to immediately identify vulnerable and flood-prone locations and complete mandatory manhole cleaning and desilting operations within the stipulated 15-day period.
āStrict measures must be taken to ensure that rainwater does not enter the sewerage network under any circumstances,ā he said.
Field Inspection Mandatory
The BWSSB Chairman also instructed zonal Chief Engineers to personally visit field locations instead of remaining confined to offices and conduct on-ground inspections of preparedness works.
He further directed officials to submit detailed reports to the central office regarding precautionary measures being implemented in their respective zones.
Emergency Teams to Remain Ready
Warning officials to remain alert during the monsoon season, Dr. Manohar said rapid response systems must be activated immediately if incidents such as manhole blockages or sewage overflow occur in any area.
To tackle emergencies efficiently, he directed that a dedicated emergency response team should remain on standby for every corporation jurisdiction.
He also instructed officials to ensure prompt resolution of public complaints without delay.
The high-level meeting was attended by BWSSBās Principal Chief Engineers, zonal Chief Engineers and other senior officials of the board.
