Bengaluru: The Karnataka Government has sanctioned cash rewards running into over ₹35 lakh for police personnel involved in the investigation and detection of multiple serious and high-profile criminal cases, including cases linked to former Karnataka Minister H.D. Revanna and his son Prajwal Revanna, according to a Government Order issued by the Home Department.

The reward sanctions cover several criminal cases registered between 2019 and 2025, involving grave offences under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Explosives Act, and other penal laws, recognising the role played by police officers in complex, sensitive and high-risk investigations.

H.D. Revanna is a former Karnataka Minister and the son of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, while Prajwal Revanna is his son and the grandson of the former Prime Minister.

Cases Registered in 2024–25 Included

As per the Government Order, rewards have been approved for police officers involved in cases registered on July 24, 2025, including Crime No. 229/2024, invoking serious sections such as:

  • Sections 305, 331(1), 331(4), 238 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023
  • Sections 25(1)(c) and 5 of the Explosives Act, 1959

These cases pertained to allegations involving criminal conspiracy, violent offences, illegal possession and use of prohibited materials, and organised unlawful activities.

For these investigations, 83 police officers and staff have been sanctioned a total reward amount of ₹10,02,500, the order states.

Earlier Case from February 2024 Also Covered

The Government Order further refers to a major case registered on February 2, 2024, for which rewards were sanctioned to 33 police personnel.
In this instance:

  • An amount of ₹11,60,000 was sanctioned initially
  • An additional ₹11,25,000 was later approved

These rewards were granted for the successful investigation and detection of the case, which involved coordinated police action and extensive probe work.

Recognition of Police Work in Sensitive Investigations

The Home Department stated that the rewards were sanctioned in recognition of the police personnel’s dedication, risk exposure, complexity of investigation, and timely detection of serious criminal cases, including those that attracted public and political attention.

The inclusion of cases linked to H.D. Revanna and Prajwal Revanna underscores the sensitivity of some of the investigations for which rewards were granted.

Total Rewards and Beneficiaries

According to the order:

  • Total reward amount sanctioned: Over ₹35.20 lakh
  • Number of beneficiaries: More than 80 police officers and staff
  • Period covered: Cases registered between 2019 and 2025
  • Disbursement: Through official treasury channels under the Home Department

The Government clarified that all rewards were sanctioned as per existing rules and procedures and are intended to encourage professional excellence and efficiency within the police force.
