Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Central City Corporation carried out a swift and large-scale sanitation drive following New Year celebrations, successfully clearing nearly 9 tonnes of waste within just five hours, officials said.

Under extensive pre-event preparedness to ensure public safety, the civic body had deployed barricades, sanitation staff, medical teams with ambulances, uninterrupted power supply for adequate lighting, and designated engineers as nodal officers across key celebration zones.

Between 3:00 am and 8:00 am, intensive cleaning operations were carried out across major crowd-heavy areas including MG Road, Brigade Road, Church Street, St. Markโ€™s Road, Residency Road, and Indiranagar.

The waste collected included liquor bottles, footwear, clothes, food plates, plastic waste, cigarette butts, and other discarded materials, amounting to approximately 9 tonnes.

Additional Commissioner (Development) Daljit Kumar lauded the tireless efforts of pourakarmikas, sanitation staff, auto-tipper drivers, supervisors, and officers, who worked through the night to restore cleanliness across the city.

Sanitation Drive at a Glance:

  • 110 pourakarmikas deployed
  • 3 Junior Health Inspectors
  • 10 auto tippers in operation
  • 3 high-pressure jet water cleaning machines
  • Operation duration: 3:00 am to 8:00 am

Senior officials including BSWML Deputy General Manager Bheemesh Naik and AGMs Appuraj and Ravikumar actively supervised the operation.

The successful cleanup ensured that Bengaluru woke up to clean streets on the first morning of 2026, showcasing coordinated civic action and the often-unseen efforts of frontline sanitation workers.
