Bengaluru / Mysuru: As the New Year dawned, celebrations across Bengaluru and Mysuru took on a deeply spiritual tone, with thousands of devotees thronging major temples from the early hours of the morning to seek divine blessings and begin the year on an auspicious note.
In Bengaluru, iconic temples including Dodda Ganapathi at Basavanagudi, Gavi Gangadhareshwara at Gavipuram, Banashankari Temple, and Bande Mahakali Temple witnessed heavy footfall as special abhishekas and festive pujas were conducted. Devotees queued up from the early hours, offering prayers for peace, prosperity, and good health in the year ahead.
Mysuru too saw a massive turnout at temples, with the Yoga Narasimha Swamy Temple in Vijayanagar emerging as a major focal point of devotion. The deity was adorned with a rare and precious gemstone brought from Kerala, drawing thousands of worshippers.
A highlight of the New Year celebrations at the Yoga Narasimha Swamy Temple was the distribution of nearly two lakh laddus, a tradition inspired decades ago by actor Dr Rajkumar. The laddu prasada distribution began at 4 am and is scheduled to continue until midnight, along with the serving of puliyogare prasada.
Temple authorities said devotees began arriving as early as 4 am, patiently standing in long queues for darshan. Officials noted that between 15,000 and 20,000 devotees had already received prasada by morning, with numbers steadily increasing through the day.
Across both cities, the scenes reflected a clear shift from late-night revelry to early-morning reverence, as citizens chose faith and tradition to usher in the New Year with hope and positivity.
