Bengaluru: Panic gripped residents of Kaddabegere on the outskirts of Bengaluru after a leopard was spotted moving through residential areas, with its presence confirmed through CCTV footage from two locations.
The visuals, recorded late night on December 11, show the leopard roaming near houses, including near the residence of a local identified as Lorry Ramanna. In one of the CCTV clips, the leopard is clearly seen carrying away a pet dog, heightening fear among villagers.
Following the incident, Forest Department officials issued an immediate alert, urging residents to remain cautious, especially during night hours. Villagers have been advised not to move alone after dark, avoid unnecessary outdoor movement, and keep children and domestic animals indoors.
The Kaddabegere Gram Panchayat has begun issuing warnings through public announcements and auto-mounted loudspeakers, cautioning residents that the leopard may reappear at any time and could pose a threat to human safety.
Forest officials confirmed that tracking and surveillance operations are underway to identify the leopardโs movement pattern and take steps to safely capture the animal.
Residents have appealed to authorities to intensify patrolling and expedite the capture operation, citing increasing instances of leopard sightings and attacks on domestic animals in Bengaluruโs peripheral areas.
