Two Kerala Nursing Students Die by Suicide at Bengaluru Railway Station; CCTV Confirms Self-Harm Act

Bengaluru: In a heartbreaking incident, two nursing students from Kerala died after being run over by a train at Chikkabanavara railway station on Sunday afternoon. The Railway Police have said that preliminary findings strongly indicate suicide.

According to officials, the incident occurred around 2:30 PM when the Bengaluru–Belagavi Vande Bharat Express was passing through the station. Railway Rural Police rushed to the spot and found both students dead on the tracks.

The deceased were identified as Sterlin Eliza (19) and Justin Joseph (20), both first-year nursing students at Saptagiri College of Nursing in Bengaluru. The two, originally from Kerala, were described as close friends by college peers.

Speaking to the media, Railway Superintendent of Police (SP) Yatheesh N said:

“We have examined the railway CCTV footage. The preliminary investigation suggests it is a case of suicide. We do not yet know the reason. No suicide note or written message has been found so far.”

Railway authorities have registered a UDR (Unnatural Death Report) and launched a detailed investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the tragedy. Police are also contacting the victims’ families and college administration to gather additional information.

Further inquiry is ongoing.
