9 new Covid cases take Karnataka count to 64

It was a ‘Black Friday’ for Karnataka with nine new Covid-positive cases being reported in the state. With this, Karnataka stands third countrywide after Maharashtra and Kerala in having the biggest number of Covid-19 cases.

Till Friday afternoon, the day’s cases included a 10-month-old child from Uttara Kannada district who did not have any history of foreign travel, and two maids working in Bengaluru in the house of one of the infected persons, taking the state’s tally to 62.

Then, late in the evening, two youths were found positive — one from Davanagere and another from Uttara Kannada — taking the tally to 64.

A bulletin released by the health department said: “P63: 18-year-old male resident of Davanagere had a history of travel to Paris and arrived in India on 18.3.2020. The case is isolated in a designated hospital in Davanagere.”

“P64: 21-year-old male resident of Dakshina Kannada had a history of travel to Dubai and landed in Bengaluru on 22.3.2020. The case is isolated in a designated hospital in Dakshina Kannada.”

Within the state, Bengaluru ‘tops’ the table with 39 confirmed cases and one death reported till Friday, while Dakshina Kannada has seven positive cases.

Kalaburagi, Chikaballapur, Mysuru, and Uttara Kannada district have three Covid-19 cases each while Davanagere has two and Udupi, Tumkur and Kodagu district have one positive case each.
