DC Sharath plans 50 Covid oxygen beds in each taluk

With Covid-19 cases rising, the local authorities are cracking down on those not wearing masks.

At a meeting on Friday, Deputy Commissioner B Sharath said a fine of Rs 200 would be imposed on people walking without wearing a mask. Till now, 4,675 people have been penalised a total of Rs 7.84 lakh.

Sharath said there are 1,130 Covid beds available, including 524 common beds, 357 oxygen beds, 57 HDU beds and 87 ICU beds. Rapid Antigen and RT-PCR testing will be enhanced in urban and rural areas, he said. Work to install 50 oxygen beds in each taluk is underway, he said.

Mysuru City police commissioner Dr Chandragupta warned of penal action against people not wearing masks in a proper manner. He appealed to all citizens to get themselves tested, not just those with Covid-like symptoms.

Rs 1.49 lakh fines in one day

The city police have fined 746 ‘maskless’ people Rs 1.49 lakh in a single day. Of this, Siddhartha Nagar traffic police collected a fine of Rs 13,800, the Metagalli police Rs 13,000, the Alanahalli police Rs 11,800, the Vijayanagar police Rs 11,200, and the JL Pura and Lashkar police stations Rs 10,200 each.
