New Delhi/Bengaluru: Showcasing Karnataka’s massive urban transformation roadmap, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Saturday pitched a ₹1.25 lakh crore infrastructure vision at a high-level national urban summit, seeking stronger financial backing from the Centre.

The event, held at the India Habitat Centre, marked the 56th Foundation Day and seminar of the Urban Challenge Fund (UCF) and Urban Investment Window (UIWIN), organised by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

Big Pitch for Karnataka Cities

Addressing the gathering, Shivakumar highlighted that Karnataka has planned 1,082 urban infrastructure projects worth ₹1.25 lakh crore, aimed at transforming cities into future-ready hubs.

Calling for greater collaboration, he urged the Centre to extend over ₹5,500 crore in funding support to accelerate ongoing projects and ensure timely execution.

Focus on Future-Ready Bengaluru

Reaffirming the state’s commitment, Shivakumar said the government is working towards building Bengaluru as a world-class city with robust and sustainable infrastructure, capable of meeting future demands.

Key Developments at the Event

Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar released a key report titled “Moving Towards Efficient City Government: A Framework for Million Plus Cities”, outlining governance strategies for large urban centres.

Shivakumar also lauded the Urban Challenge Fund (UCF) as a critical platform for enabling innovation and investment in urban development.

National Platform, Big Message

The summit served as a key platform for states to present their urban development strategies, with Karnataka making a strong case for scaling infrastructure investments and accelerating city transformation.

With a bold financial roadmap and a clear push for central support, Karnataka has positioned itself at the forefront of India’s next phase of urban growth and smart city development.
