Woman’s body in suitcase: Accused techie consumes poison before surrendering to Pune police

BENGALURU: Techie Rakesh Rajendra Khedekar, accused of murdering his wife, Gouri Anil Sambrekar, has been arrested by Pune police. It is reported that Rakesh consumed poison and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Pune.

He allegedly killed her following a quarrel over work-related issues on Wednesday night. After killing Gauri, Rakesh stuffed her body into a suitcase and planned to escape, but he could not manage to do it. He then fled by car, ,butwas caught by the police. The Pune police had received information about Rakesh’s whereabouts based on his phone call detail records (CDR).

Gauri Anil Sambekar had completed her degree in mass communication and was married to Rakesh two years ago. Rakesh was a project manager in a software company and was working from home.

On Wednesday night, Rakesh and Gauri had a fight over work-related issues. Gauri threw a knife at Rakesh, and in fit of rage, Rakesh killed her using the same knife. He then cut her stomach and neck and stuffed her body into a suitcase. Rakesh also switched off Gauri’s mobile phone and had dinner at home. Later, at 11 pm, he planned to dispose of the body, but was unsuccessful. He then kept the body in the bathroom and fled to Pune.

Accused Rakesh had consumed poison and collapsed in the premises of the Shirwal police station in Pune before surrendering. Later, the police admitted him to the Sassoon hospital in Pune where he is receiving treatment. It is expected that the accused will be brought to Bengaluru today. It is learned that the Pune police have recorded the statement of the accused.

Sixteen hours after the murder, Rakesh called a neighbour and informed them about Gauri’s death. He then called Gauri’s family members and told them that she had committed suicide. The neighbour informed the house owner, who, in turn, informed the police. Based on the phone call records, the Bengaluru police traced Rakesh’s location to Pune and informed the local police, who arrested him.

A team from Hulimavu police station has left for Pune to get the custody of accused Rakesh. The police have tightened security around the house where the murder took place.
