Four accused had been taken to crime scene at K Channasandra when two of them attacked the cops
BENGALURU:
The city police had to resort to firing on Friday to subdue two of the five persons arrested in connection with the gangrape of a woman in Bengaluru. The cops had arrested the group, including a woman, on Thursday, hours after the Assam police posted a video of the brutal act.
The attack on the cops took place when four of the accused were taken to the scene of the crime at Karegowda Layout, K. Channasandra, where they were reportedly staying in a rented house. In a bid to flee, two of them, Ridoy Babu, 25, and Sagar, 23, attacked the policemen. “Both were shot in the knee and are being treated at a government hospital,” the police said.
The 22-year-old victim, believed to be from Bangladesh, is reported to be in a neighbouring state, and a team of the city police has been deputed to bring her to Bengaluru.

International racket
According to the cops, the video was shot around 10 days back, and the accused, believed to be Bangladeshis, are part of an international human trafficking racket.
According to Ramamurthy Nagar police inspector Melvin Francis, the two accused tried to escape after attacking Banaswadi Assistant Commissioner of Police NS Sakri and other police personnel. Sakri’s team had taken the four accused to the scene of the crime at K Channasandra.
A senior official said the accused have been questioned on the trafficking network, their associates and the whereabouts of the victim.
The horrific incident went viral after a video clip was tweeted by the Assam police on Thursday seeking other states’ co-operation to nab the five accused shown in the video. Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs Kiren Rijiju had also asked police authorities across the country to help in nabbing the accused.
Bengaluru number led to arrests
During their investigation, the Assam police were led to a Bengaluru number and alerted the city police on Thursday afternoon. The Bengaluru police tracked the accused to their house and arrested the four men and the woman.
Bengaluru city police commissioner Kamal Pant said the accused have been booked for rape and assault, among other criminal offences. Pant said the group are believed to be from Bangladesh.
