DV Sadananda Gowda urges all those over 45 to get the jab
BENGALURU:
Union Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister DV Sadananda Gowda has hinted at opening up the Covid vaccination programme to those who are below 45 years of age.
The Minister, who took the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine at the city’s KC General Hospital on Wednesday, told the media that everyone over the age of 45 should be vaccinated. He added that the Union government was also considering covering those who are below the age of 45 years.
Gowda said both the vaccines currently manufactured in the country are available in sufficient quantities. About 22 crore doses have been produced so far. Already 11 to 12 crore people have been vaccinated. Six crore doses have been provided to 90 countries which have asked for India’s help in this regard.
The Minister said it was now planned to import the Sputnik-V vaccine from Russia. This will help speed up the country’s vaccination coverage, he said.
