Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced that the Cabinet has approved the construction of a two-phase tunnel road in Bangalore, with tenders for the first phase set to be released shortly.
During a recent media conference, DCM Shivakumar shared insights from his consultations with Bengaluru MLAs and senior officials regarding the impact of rain damage in the city, the Bengaluru Pragati initiative, and the implementation of the Greater Bengaluru Act.
“To ensure a smooth execution of this project and to mitigate traffic congestion at the tunnel’s entry and exit points, we convened a meeting with officials from the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), the Director General of Police, the Inspector General of Police, and traffic department representatives prior to issuing the tender,” he explained.
Shivakumar emphasized that no exits will be permitted within one kilometer of the Vidhan Soudha, a decision aimed at alleviating traffic jams that frequently occur in that area. “I have instructed police officials to monitor this situation closely. This meeting included myself, the Chief Secretary, and the Chief Administrative Officer of the GBA,” he added.
Additionally, he announced plans for the construction of a 114-kilometer elevated corridor in Bengaluru, noting that input from traffic police officers has been solicited regarding this ambitious project.
The meeting was attended by several prominent figures, including Ministers K.J. George, Ramalinga Reddy, Zameer Ahmed, and Krishna Byre Gowda, as well as MLAs N.A. Harris, Rizwan Arshad, Gopalaiah, Satish Reddy, Muniraju, S.T. Somashekar, Uday Garudachar, Ramamurthy, Manjula Limbavali, Srinivas, Ravi Subramanya, Anekal Shivanna, MLC Sudhamadas, BBMP Administrator Tushar Girinath, Chief Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao.
