BENGALURU:
A committee has been set up to prevent illegal cow/camel slaughter for festivals such as Bakrid.
The Deputy Commissioner, Bengaluru Urban, G N Shivamurthy, in an order said the committee has been directed to take appropriate action to prevent unauthorized animal slaughter/trafficking.
The police department, the RTO, the Department of Animal Husbandry, BBMP and NGOs are to work collectively in this matter.
8 camels saved from slaughter
Meanwhile around 8 camels which were brought from Rajasthan for the Bakrid festival were rescued by the police near the Kalaburagi town’s Old Check Post.
The Akhil Karnataka Prani Daya Sangh Gaushala’s Bengaluru president Prakash Chand Patwa said, “The rescue operation took place at Aland, 2 km from the police station. The camels were made to walk more than 900 km from Madhya Pradesh, and were about to be transported to Bengaluru.”
“We thank Minister Prabhu Chauhan, the ADGP, the Secretary, Animal Husbandry, and the SP, Kalaburagi, for taking action. We request them to also trace and rescue around 20 other missing camels,” Patwa said.
