SWR’s eye-popping feat: 209 spl trains ferry 3.02 lakh returnees

Since May 3, South Western Railway has run 209 Shramik Special trains transporting 3.02 lakh migrant workers to their native destinations.

SWR DRM Ashok Kumar Verma tweeted: “300,000 and going strong. Till now South Western Railway has transported over three lakh passengers on 209 Shramik special trains to various states across the country.”

While SWR  transported the first one lakh passengers in 13 days, the next one lakh passengers were transported in just 6 days. “SWR is going all out to arrange for trains as per the demand of the state government to all parts of the country so that migrant workers can reach their home towns,” said  SWR’s PRO Vijaye E.

SWR has run Shramik Specials from KSR Bengaluru, Bengaluru Cantonment, Chikkabanavara, Malur, Mysuru-Ashokapuram, Kabakaputtur, Hassan, Hubballi, Hosapete, Ballari, Koppal, and Hosur in Tamil Nadu.  

Break-up of trains & passengers

Bihar 69 trains,1,01,347 passengers, Uttar Pradesh 49 trains, 70,161 passengers, Jharkhand 21trains, 30,962,  West Bengal 21 trains, 30,851, Odisha 14 trains, 21,461, Rajasthan 7 trains, 9,309, Assam 6 trains, 9,136, Madhya Pradesh 5 trains, 7,085, Tripura 4 trains, 5,704, Uttarakhand 3 trains, 3,863, Jammu & Kashmir 3 trains, 2,950,  Manipur 2 trains, 3,090, Himachal Pradesh 1 train, 643,  Chhattisgarh 1 train, 1,205, Kerala 1 train, 1,496, Mizoram 1 train, 1,456, Nagaland 1 train, 1,507.

Of the above, the Bengaluru Division has run 177 Shramik Specials ferrying 2,56,200 passengers, the Hubballi Division has run 21 Shramik Specials with 30,580 passengers, and the Mysuru Division has run 11 Shramik Specials ferrying 15,446 passengers.
