Sunday’s curfew to stretch 36 hours

Date:

Strict action will be taken against violators

BENGALURU:

The second last Sunday of May will see a complete lockdown across Karnataka, as earlier announced by Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa.

What it means is that the curfew that applies on other days between 7 pm and 7 am will be of an even longer duration – having already started at 7 pm on Saturday and continuing unbroken till 7 am on Monday.  In Bengaluru, the city police commissioner has warned that violations of the curfew will be taken very seriously.

Some relaxations have been allowed in terms of purchasing groceries and medicines, while medical and media personnel will be allowed to commute. Pregnant women and dialysis patients will be permitted to go to hospitals, while marriages which were already fixed on Sunday will be allowed with strict conditions attached.

State transport buses will not ply, and autos and cabs will have to stay off the roads, while non-essential stores like beauty parlours will have to stay shut.

All parks, which had opened for limited periods recently, will be locked for the entire duration of the Sunday curfew.
