BENGALURU:
Former chief minister and the Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka State Assembly Siddaramaiah has again demanded the Chief Minister to convene a special session of the Assembly immediately to discuss about the unprecedented havoc caused by the rains and floods in the state.
The Congress leader, in a letter to the Chief Minister, stated that the people of North Karnataka have suffered heavily due to the unprecedented rains and floods recently.
Siddaramaiah, who had recently visited various flood affected areas in Northern Karnataka, said: “The people of all sections, especially farming community, are under severe distress as they have lost the entire standing crop due to the incessant rains.”
“The people of Northern Karnataka have also lost their dwelling houses, and also their livelihood and no amount of compensation payable would be sufficient for this.
Stating that both the Union and state government have “failed to take up relief works and extend the helping hand to rebuild the ruined livelihood”, the Congress leader said that there is an urgent need to discuss the situation being faced by the people of the state due to flood in the state assembly.”
Alleging that the people of Northern Karnataka, who had lost their houses in the last year’s flood, are yet to receive the promised compensation from the state government, the former chief minister, in the letter, had urged the state government to utilise the Loans and Advances planned to rase, put to use to address the grievances of the distressed people.
The Congress leader, in the said letter, had also expressed dismay that the “concerned district In-charge ministers have not bothered to hear the grievances of the flood victims”.
On Sunday too, he demanded convening a special assembly session to discuss the flood situation.
“Farmers are under miserable conditions due to floods during last few months. They have lost their houses and cattle. @CMofKarnataka should immediately convene assembly session to discuss about the same,” he had tweeted.
On Monday too, while addressing to reporters in Kalaburagi, he demanded especial Assembly session to discuss the issue. (Agency)
