Historical sites in Kittur should be developed to boost tourism: Karnataka CM
BENGALURU:
Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa approved an action plan of Rs 10 crore for the Kittur Development Authority while chairing a meeting of the Authority on Tuesday. A sum of Rs 50 crore was allocated in the state budget for the development of historical places in Kittur and Rs 10 crore has been released for 2021-22.
Under the action plan, work will be taken up on a memorial to Rani Chennamma, development of Chowki Matt Gadduge, a replica of the palace belonging to Kittur province, development of Chennamma’s samadhi, construction of a statue of Belavadi Mallamma and a display board describing her life and history at Belavadi, and preservation of documents pertaining to Kittur province.

Preserving queen’s legacy
Officials of the Authority said of 106 projects taken up at a cost of Rs.19 crore, 104 have been completed. Reconstruction of the Chennamma Palace will be done in consultation with the state Archeological Department. These historical sites should be developed so as to encourage tourism, the CM said.
Deputy Chief Ministers Govind Karjol and CN Ashwath Narayan, Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Belagavi legislators, Madivaleshwara Swamiji, Principal Secretary (Revenue) Manjunatha Prasad, members of the Authority and senior officials were present.
