Terror accused was recruiting Muslim youths to join ISIS in Syria
BENGALURU:
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested an ISIS operative, identified as Muhammad Tauqir Mahmood (33), in Bengaluru on Saturday.
The NIA had registered a case under sections 120B and 125 of the IPC and sections 17, 18 and 18B of the UA(P) Act against Muhammad Tauqir Mahmood, Zuhab Hameed@ Shakeel Manna, Irfan Nasir and Mohammed Shihab for their affiliation with banned terrorist organisation ISIS@ISIL@Daesh.
During the course of the investigation, the NIA had earlier arrested two accused, Ahamed Abdul Cader and Irfan Nasir, who were charge-sheeted on April 1, 2021.
Radicalising young Muslims
Further Investigation has revealed that Muhammad Tauqir Mahmood, in association with the co-accused, had raised funds, radicalised and recruited gullible Muslim youths of a ‘Quran Circle’ group and illegally sent them to Syria to join ISIS. Earlier in 2013, Muhammad Tauqir Mahmood along with his associate had visited Syria illegally to liaise with theDaesh leadership and had offered ‘support’ from Indian Muslims.
