Based on specific information on Thursday, officers of the NCB, Hyderabad sub-zone intercepted a parcel and seized 3 kg of pseudoephedrine concealed in 3 ‘lehengas’. The contraband was destined for Australia and was stitched into the cloth to avoid detection.

In a swift follow-up action, the consignor was located in Chennai and the NCB, Chennai apprehended him after 2 days of prolonged field surveillance. The consignor had used a fake address and documents to conceal his identity.

According to Amit Ghawate, Zonal Director, NCB, Bengaluru zonal unit, in another operation in Bengaluru, based on a tip-off on Saturday, officers of the NCB, Bengaluru intercepted a Swift car with Andhra Pradesh registration at the Devanahalli toll plaza, nabbed 4 persons and recovered a commercial quantity of MDMA pills, methamphetamine and methaqualone from one of them, a resident of Visakhapatnam. The other 3 suspects are from Bihar and Hyderabad. The four were going towards Hyderabad from Bengaluru.

In a swift follow-up action, the premises of the supplier was identified and a search resulted in the seizure of a small quantity of high-grade ganja, while one person was apprehended from the premises. The syndicate was procuring a variety of drugs from a supplier based in Bengaluru and was selling them at parties and in pubs in Hyderabad.

More than 10 grams of MDMA is considered ‘commercial quantity’ under the NDPS Act. MDMA (methylene dioxy meth amphetamine) is commonly known as Ecstasy. Continued usage of the drug can lead to heart problems, memory lapses, hallucinations and seizures.
