Trio abuse and assault cops, marshal on being asked to pay fine

BENGALURU:

Three men accused of obstructing the police and a BBMP marshal, when asked to pay fines for not wearing masks, are now cooling their heels in prison.

The accused have been identified as Karl Marx (25) of RT Nagar, Shivakumar (54) of Vidyaranyapura, and Babu (40) of Manorayan.

The accused allegedly assaulted ASI Ashwatthaiah, constable Jambagi and BBMP marshal Muniraju in the Jalahalli police limits. An FIR was filed at the Jalahalli police station.

While on their rounds on Wednesday, the law enforcers saw the trio, who were standing in front of a garage near the Gokula Bridge railway gate, not wearing masks. When they were asked to pay a fine, the trio allegedly abused and assaulted the cops and the marshal.

Based on a complaint filed by ASI Ashwaththaya, the three were arrested, produced in court and remanded to 14 days’ judicial custody.

Police warning

The police commissioner tweet reads, “@Jalahalli ps team have arrested 3 persons for assaulting police officials after they were asked to pay the fine for not wearing masks. Any form of violence or assault against our officers will not be taken lightly. All accused have been remanded to judicial custody for 14 days.”
