Police take CCTV footage, search to extend overseas

BENGALURU:

The city police have formed nine special teams to hunt for the killers of Manish Shetty, a close aide of gangster Bannanje Raja, who was shot dead at Brigade Road on Thursday night.

45-year-old Duet bar owner Shetty was shot and killed in front of his bar at around 9 pm on Thursday. “The police are investigating the shootout. Nine special teams have been prepared for the assassins’ detection. Special teams will be searching for the accused in Bengaluru, Mangaluru, Chikkmagalur and overseas,” said a cop who is part of the investigation.

Special teams have taken possession of CCTV footage of the area where the shooting took place. The investigators will try to obtain clues from the footprints of the shooters.

Shady past

As per sources, on June 25, 2010 Manish Shetty had fired at Kasargod’s Behumjee’s contractor Mahmud Kunjunji after a tip-off that Dawood Ibrahim had sent Rs 50 crore worth of jewellery to Kunjunji. Shetty was arrested in the case by the Kasargod police.

Muthappa Rai was said to be Shetty’s first godfather. After that he joined Bannanje Raja. Later, he started operating on his own.

Shetty, a native of Koppa in Chikkmagalur, had many cases against him in Mangaluru and Mumbai. He was associated with Bannanje Raja as well as Ravi Poojari. Shetty was the main accused in the robbery case of the Chemmanoor jewellery showroom in Banaswadi.
