Bengaluru: Former JDS MP Prajwal Revanna, who has been sentenced to life imprisonment in a rape case, has been officially registered as a convict at Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru. He has been assigned inmate number 15528, and jail authorities confirmed that he is now serving his sentence as a convicted prisoner from Saturday onward.
As per prison regulations, Prajwal has been provided a white uniform, standard for life-term convicts. Under Karnataka prison norms, he is required to perform eight hours of labour daily inside the prison facility. His initial assignment involves unskilled work, for which he will be paid a daily wage of ₹524 for the first year.
A senior prison official said that as per standard procedures, prisoners are gradually upgraded to semi-skilled and then skilled labour categories depending on performance and time served, with corresponding pay increases.
Sources also revealed that Prajwal Revanna reportedly did not sleep until late night after being lodged in the prison. On Sunday morning, after completing his routine activities, he was served beaten rice (avalakki uppittu) for breakfast, as per the regular jail menu.
Revanna’s incarceration follows his conviction by a special court in a high-profile rape case, making him one of the most high-ranking political figures in recent times to be sentenced to life imprisonment.
