BENGALURU:

A Karnataka legislator who recovered from Covid-19 is all set to donate his plasma on Wednesday. Kunigal MLA Dr HD Ranganath of the Congress will undergo the procedure at  HCG Hospital in the city. The MLA’s move was confirmed by Dr Vishal Rao, oncologist and head of HCG Hospital.

Sources say he could be the first legislator in the country to donate plasma to a Covid patient. Speaking to TheBengaluruLive, Dr Ranganath said he was the first MLA to wear a PPE kit and participate in Covid funerals in his constituency, but he is not sure whether he would be the first legislator to donate his blood plasma.

Dr Ranganath said, “I was infected with Covid and on July 28 I was discharged. I was inspired to wear a PPE kit and attend cremations after I saw my mentor, Bengaluru Rural Member of Parliament DK Suresh. I was the first to distribute immunity booster pills in my constituency. There are 2 lakh voters in my constituency and nearly 20 lakh immunity booster tablets of vitamins C and D, iron and zinc were distributed.”

An orthopaedic surgeon by profession, Dr Ranganath said, “I have stood with my constituents ever since Covid cases were reported in  my constituency. Later, I got infected and now it is my turn to give back by donating plasma that can help a patient recover. I am happy with what I’m doing.”
