Bengaluru: State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) Chairman Shyam Bhatt on Monday visited the site in Kogilu, where allegedly unauthorised houses were recently demolished, and interacted with affected residents to hear their grievances.
Speaking to reporters after the visit, Bhatt said the Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognisance of the incident and has sought a detailed report from the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) regarding the demolition drive.
He stated that an inquiry into the prevailing situation will be conducted under the supervision of the ADGP heading the police wing of the State Human Rights Commission. Documents submitted by residents will be collected and verified as part of the probe.
โAfter completing the investigation, the Commission will make appropriate recommendations to the state government,โ Bhatt said.
Residents informed the Commission that while officials have claimed alternative arrangements were made for those displaced, the relief centres are located far away, causing hardship. Bhatt said this concern would also be examined.
He urged residents to submit all available documentsโincluding notices, identity proofs, and property-related recordsโto the police team assisting the inquiry to ensure a fair assessment.

Survey by Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation
Meanwhile, officials from the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation have begun a survey in Fakir Layout and Wasim Layout, verifying documents of families who lost their homes in the demolition.
Affected residents have submitted records such as temporary occupancy certificates issued by the tahsildar, electricity bills, Aadhaar cards, and other supporting documents to establish their claims during the survey process.
The Human Rights Commissionโs intervention has brought renewed focus on the rehabilitation and due process aspects of the Kogilu eviction drive, even as official reports and findings are awaited.
