KPYCC top post ‘arrangement’ echoes rift between Siddaramaiah and DKS
BENGALURU:
The ego clash between former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president DK Shivakumar seems to have spilled over to the Indian Youth Congress.
In the latest development, current Karnataka Youth Congress president Raksha Ramaiah will hold the post for one year (usually the post is held for two years) while Mohammed Nalapad will take charge as Youth Congress president from January 31, 2022. This arrangement is a fall-out of the results of the internal elections held for the state youth president’s post, when Nalapad obtained more votes than Ramaiah.

The official press release issued by Indian Youth Congress National President Srinivas BV states: “IYC has taken a decision that Raksha Ramaiah who was announced as Karnataka PYC president on January 2021 will continue as Karnataka PYC president till January 31, 2022. Mohammed Nalapad will take over the charge as Karnataka PYC president from January 31, 2022.”
What is the controversy?
The controversy over the results of the poll for KPYCC president is on account of Mohammed Harris Nalapad being disqualified at the last minute and Raksha Ramaiah being declared president despite ending up second in the race to Nalapad.

Ramaiah, 34, is the son of former minister MR Seetharam. He secured 57,271 votes. Nalapad bagged 64,203 votes, but was disqualified owing to the infamous 2018 assault case, party sources said. The app-based Youth Congress presidential election was held on January 10, 11 and 12.
According to party sources, Ramaiah has Congress Legislature Party leader Siddaramaiah’s backing, whereas Nalapad has KPCC president DK Shivakumar on his side.
