Bengaluru: Several parts of Karnataka witnessed intense rainfall accompanied by hailstorms, bringing sudden relief from the scorching heat but also raising concerns over extreme weather patterns across the state.
Districts including Chamarajanagar, Mysuru, Hassan, Belagavi, Dharwad, Koppal, Vijayapura and Hubballi reported heavy rain with hailstones, with visuals showing roads, rooftops and open spaces covered in thick layers of white hail—giving an appearance similar to snowfall in northern regions.

In Chamarajanagar, the hailstorm was particularly intense, with large quantities of hailstones piling up on roads and even entering houses. Residents reported that the rain began with thunder and lightning late in the evening, quickly turning into a heavy downpour with hail.

In some areas, water seeped into homes while hailstones accumulated in courtyards and verandas. Locals described the scenes as “Kashmir-like,” with streets turning white due to the heavy hail deposition.
Similar conditions were reported in Hubballi’s Kalghatgi area, where hail covered roads and disrupted vehicular movement, with vehicles struggling to move due to slippery conditions. In Belagavi and Dharwad, strong winds accompanied the rain, with hail reported in several pockets.
While the rainfall has brought temporary relief from rising temperatures, residents expressed mixed reactions—relief from heat but concern over damage to property, vehicles, and crops.
Weather experts note that hailstorms are not uncommon, but the intensity and widespread occurrence across multiple districts within a short span indicate a significant atmospheric disturbance.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious during such sudden weather events, especially while driving, as hail can damage vehicles and reduce visibility.
The state continues to witness fluctuating weather conditions, with further updates expected from the meteorological department regarding the cause and forecast of such extreme changes.
