Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has initiated a statewide land sub-division (podi) drive for 2.51 lakh land grant holders across 73,390 identified survey numbers, with a target to complete the process by December, Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda announced on Wednesday.
Responding to a question from BJP member M.T.B. Nagaraj during the Legislative Council’s Question Hour, the minister said that earlier, landowners had to apply at local revenue offices for podi, which often led to fraudulent transfers when individuals used another person’s land records to initiate the process. “To prevent such misuse, the government has scrapped the single-person podi system and will now directly execute the process,” he said.
The government has relaxed the documentation requirement from five documents to just three essential proofs for processing podi.
Krishna Byre Gowda also revealed that digitisation of land records is underway to preserve original files. “Out of 100 crore pages of records in revenue offices, 36 crore have been scanned so far. The scanning will be completed by February next year,” he added.
