Bengaluru, March 16: The Karnataka government is set to implement special initiatives aimed at providing NEET coaching to students from rural backgrounds, according to Dr. Sharanaprakash R. Patil, the Minister for Medical Education, Skill Development, Livelihood, and Raichur District In-charge.
During a session in the Legislative Council, Congress member Ivan D’Souza expressed concerns that the NEET system is disadvantaging rural students in accessing medical education. He questioned the adequacy of the Rs 3 lakh allocated for coaching, suggesting it may not be sufficient for underprivileged students in rural areas.
In response, Minister Dr. Patil emphasized that the NEET system has not led to a reduction in available medical seats in the state. He explained that although there were plans to abolish the NEET system, a ruling from the Supreme Court upheld its continuation. Consequently, the government is committed to implementing various measures to enhance NEET coaching for rural students, ensuring they have better access to medical education opportunities.
