Randeep has crucial role to play in beefing up Bengaluru’s health infrastructure
BENGALURU:
Four days after his transfer order, IAS officer D Randeep took over as Commissioner of Karnataka’s Health and Family Welfare Department on Saturday.
On Tuesday, Randeep was transferred from the post of Special Commissioner (Public Health and IT) in BBMP. Earlier, while in the civic body’s SWM wing, he had taken pro-active measures to tackle Bengaluru’s garbage mess. More recently, he was effectively the civic agency’s pointman in pushing for universal adult vaccination in the city. Consequently, Bengaluru has crossed the milestone of having vaccinated around 1.38 crore residents, including the first and second doses.
On Saturday, Randeep took charge from his predecessor Dr K V Thrilok Chandra, who has been transferred to BBMP and has been given the responsibility of taking care of Public Health in Bengaluru City.
Sources in the Health Department said Randeep will be playing a vital role vis-a-vis the health infrastructure in Bengaluru city as he has closely monitored the Covid-19 pandemic — both wave one and wave two — when Bengaluru faced a critical shortage of oxygen and ICU ventilator beds. According to experts, the public health infrastructure in the city is still not sufficient to meet the requirements of a new surge in coronavirus cases.
