ASC Centre conducts National Equestrian Championship with elan
BENGALURU:
The National Equestrian Championship (NEC) for ‘Eventing’ got underway recently at the ASC Centre & College under the overall supervision of Lieutenant General BK Repswal, Commandant, ASC Centre & College, Bengaluru.
Army Service Corps (ASC) volunteered to provide infrastructure, manpower, medical and veterinary teams for the equestrian event that was suspended due to the pandemic. The event’s aim was to provide good exposure to Indian riders aiming to participate in the next Asian Games.
All about ‘Eventing’
‘Eventing’ is an equestrian discipline where a single horse-and-rider combination competes against others in three phases – Dressage, Cross-Country and Show Jumping — on three different days as an equestrian triathlon. Competitors accumulate penalty points in each phase and at the end of the event, the pair with the lowest score takes top honours.
The tournament is held over four days with veterinary inspection on the first day, Dressage on the second day, Cross-Country on the third day and Show Jumping on the last day.
Over 120 prominent riders with horses participated in the event. It was also an opportunity for ASC Centre & College to showcase international standard equestrian infrastructure and facilities.
Asiad glory
The Indian team won an individual and team silvers in the 2018 Asian Games. ‘Eventing’ has been a traditional strength of India wherein the maximum number of medals have been won in past Asian Games.
Judges for the event included Brig. Sameer Lanba, the course designer, Col Rajeev Dahiya, the technical delegate, and Col Sunil Shivdas, the president, jury.
