BENGALURU: The state, including Bengaluru, is expected to face heavy rain over the next few days as pre-monsoon showers continue to be active. An orange alert has been issued for coastal and south-interior parts of the state, including Bengaluru.

The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for 17 districts due to the formation of strong winds, troughs, and low-pressure areas. Heavy rain is anticipated in Kodagu, Chikkamagalur, Shivamogga, and coastal areas, while moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is expected in Bengaluru, Bengaluru Rural, Chamarajanagar, Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Kodagu, Mysuru, Hassan, Tumakuru, Chitradurga, Mandya, Ramanagara, Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, and Udupi districts.

An orange alert has been issued for three days for coastal areas and five days for south-interior districts. North Karnataka may experience light rain. Strong winds, thunder, and lightning are expected in many parts of the state, including Bengaluru, throughout the week.

Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, responsible for Bengaluru, conducted an inspection of the city on Monday to assess the damage caused by the rain. Along with Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath, he visited Northwood villas in Yelahanka, where flooding occurred due to overflowing water from the rajakaluve.

Giri Nath stated, “Water entered some houses in Yelahanka and 22 villas in Northwood. Pumps were used to remove the water. A stormwater drain is being constructed near Puttenahalli lake, which caused the flooding. There has been no encroachment in the villas.”

He stated that a total of 5,500 potholes have appeared in the aftermath of the recent heavy rainfall within the past 15 days. Due to the ongoing rain, it has been challenging to address these potholes promptly. Among these potholes, 66 are considered major and will require filling with cold mix. Once the rain subsides, our team will prioritize filling these potholes.

In addition, there have been over 1,050 incidents of fallen trees in the past two weeks, with more than 350 trees being uprooted. Furthermore, we have identified 198 flood-prone areas where approximately 40-50 houses are affected by flooding during rainy periods.
