HC tells pollution watchdog to check for STP violations

Date:

BENGALURU:

The Karnataka High Court has directed the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) to check if 27 apartments near the Bellandur and Varthur lakes have installed Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs), as they had undertaken to do two years ago.

If STPs have not been installed, the Board will have to take penal action against these apartments, the court said, adding that it is the duty of the Board to keep a constant vigil and ensure that apartments and industries do not discharge waste water into lakes.
