First case was reported on March 8, seven others on March 12
BENGALURU:
With eight college students from a government-run medical and engineering hostel at Vidyapeeta testing positive for Covid-19, BBMP has declared the place a cluster. This takes the number of notified clusters in Bengaluru in the last 45 days to 14.
BBMP commissioner N Manjunatha Prasad said the first positive case at the hostel was reported on March 8. Following this, the co-ed was counselled and shifted to Victoria Hospital the same day. Civic officials then traced 158 contacts, who were tested on March 9 and 10. Of them, seven tested positive on March 12. All seven have been shifted to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Jayanagar.
Prasad said, “All hostel inmates who tested negative have been instructed to follow Covid-appropriate behaviour. They should get tested immediately if they develop any symptoms, and a mandatory repeat test should be done 7 days later.”
