New Karnataka system quickly freezes bank accounts of victim and cyber crook: Bommai
BENGALURU:
Exhorting the state police to “go after cyber criminals, come what may,” Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Saturday, “There should be no compromise. We should have have zero tolerance for them. The time has come to wage a war on cyber crimes.”
Sending a tough message to cyber criminals after launching the ‘Cyber Secure Karnataka’ campaign, the Chief Minister said the state has introduced the CIR number system, the first of its kind in the country, wherein an FIR will be registered and bank accounts of the victim and the offender/s frozen following just a mobile phone communication. “Even the Prime Minister has appreciated it and it is being emulated by other states as well,” he said.
Referring to the use of the dark web in narcotics supply, child trafficking and illegal arms supply, Bommai said, “All this comes through the cyber route. Our government started CEN (Cyber, Economic offences, Narcotics) police stations when I was the Home Minister. Our government has declared a war against narcotics. However, only police stations are not enough. We need technology, modern equipment and funds. I can provide you everything to enable you to go after cyber criminals. Come what may, there should be no compromise. We should have zero tolerance against drug trafficking.”

As digital security involves coding by human talent, there is always an element of vulnerability as far as the users are concerned. It poses a challenge for the security of women as well.
