Mysuru: In a shocking incident caught on CCTV, a group of four individuals attacked a man and three women with lethal weapons while they were travelling in an auto-rickshaw in Mysuru on Thursday night. The violent assault occurred around 10 PM on Ramanuja Road, near Agrahara, in the heart of the city.
The victims have been identified as Rajan (38), his wife Kumuda, Vishalakshi, and Renukamma. All four sustained serious injuries, with Rajan reported to be in critical condition. They were immediately rushed to KR Hospital for treatment.
Sources revealed that Rajan was previously named in a POCSO case registered a year ago. On Thursday, he had reportedly visited the Vidyaranyapuram Police Station in connection with that case. While returning in an auto, he and the three women were allegedly followed by a group in a car.
The assailants—identified as Ram, Sowmya, Abbayya, and Prasad—reportedly attacked the victims with machetes and iron rods (locally known as ‘longs’) on the public road. The brutal act was recorded by nearby CCTV cameras, which showed the accused openly brandishing weapons and verbally abusing the victims during the assault.
KR Police arrived at the scene shortly after and have launched an investigation. The motive behind the attack is being probed, with police treating it as a targeted retaliation linked to the earlier POCSO case.
Authorities are reviewing the CCTV footage for further leads and to confirm the sequence of events. A case has been registered, and further action is underway.
