Former BBMP chief Manjunatha Prasad deputed to help BBMP tackle Covid-19

Date:

Currently Revenue Principal Secretary, Prasad will assist civic chief Gaurav Gupta in Covid fight

BENGALURU:

In an apparent acknowledgement of his experience, efficiency and commitment in leading the civic agency’s efforts to fight the pandemic since it broke out early last year, the Karnataka government has tasked former BBMP Commissioner N Manjunatha Prasad with assisting current BBMP Chief Commissioner Gaurav Gupta in tackling the resurgent second Covid-19 wave in Bengaluru.

Vast experience

An order to this effect was issued by DPAR on Tuesday evening. Prasad has vast experience in administrative issues related to the city, given his cumulative tenure of nearly four years as BBMP Commissioner.

Currently Principal Secretary in the Revenue Department, he will now have the additional responsibility of curbing the spread of the coronavirus in the BBMP limits.

During BH Anil Kumar’s tenure as civic chief, the number of infections during the first wave was at its peak. Subsequently, Kumar was shunted out and Prasad was posted as civic chief on July 28, 2020.

Good record against Covid

On Prasad’s watch, the number of infections had come under control. But from April this year, the city has once again started witnessing a skyrocketing in positive cases.

On March 31 this year — barely 27 days ago — Prasad was transferred from BBMP to the Revenue Department as Principal Secretary.
