Karnataka health officials confirm the ‘dubious distinction’

Bengaluru:

The 76-year-old man from Kalburgi who died on Wednesday has been confirmed as the first Covid-19 death reported in the country.

Health department officials confirmed late on Thursday that his test reports had come positive.

The health commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pandey said in a Whatsapp message shared with the media: “The 76-year- old man from Kalburgi who passed away and was a suspected Covid-19 patient has been confirmed for Covid-19. The necessary contact tracing, isolation and other measures as per protocol are being carried out. The Telangana govt. has also been informed since he went to a private hospital there.”
