CHIKKAMAGALURU: The owners of a shop in Kadur town of the district were in for a rude shock when they received the monthly power bill (from August 1 to September 1) for a whopping Rs 10 lakh.

The shop owners, Kamal Chand Daga and Mohit Daga of Mohit Agency at Daga Complex near Ulukinakallu in Kadur, normally receive an electricity bill of approximately Rs 4,000 to Rs 4,500 per month. But the bill for the month of August suddenly increased to Rs 10,26,054. The bill period is mentioned as 1/8/2023 to 1/9/2023. The figure on the bill left the shop owner shocked.

“In the past, we have paid all electricity bills on time and there were no dues. But this time, we got a massive bill and we contacted the Kadur Mescom officials. They have assured that it will be fixed soon”, they said.

The shop owners, Kamal Chand Daga and Mohit Daga, expressed their anger against Mescom, as they did not get any information from the Mescom staff, even after four days of lodging a complaint against the huge bill.

“There is a software problem. The dues were wrongly typed and we will investigate the matter and take appropriate action”, said a Mescom staffer, reacting to the complaint.
