Hunt on for city-based foreigner supplying drugs: police chief

BENGALURU:

In a late evening development, Sandalwood actress Ragini Dwivedi was arrested by Bengaluru’s Central Crime Branch sleuths on a charge of alleged involvement in the drugs case.

Ragini’s is the third arrest in Bengaluru by the CCB sleuths. Earlier in the day, addressing the media, city police commissioner Kamal Pant had confirmed two arrests — Ragini’s close friend Ravishankar, who is a clerk in the Jayanagar RTO office, and Rahul Shetty, who is a close friend of another Sandalwood actress, Sanjana Galrani.

Meanwhile, another person, Viren Khanna, who reportedly organises parties in Bengaluru where drugs are consumed, was arrested in Delhi. Two CCB inspectors went from Bengaluru for the arrest and obtained his police custody for 4 days.

Early on Friday, CCB sleuths conducted a 3-hour search of Ragini’s two flats in Yelahanka and one flat in Indiranagar, after Ravishankar tipped them off about ganja and other drugs being consumed at parties in Bengaluru city, an officer said.

Sources said Ragini’s arrest came after her advocate filed an anticipatory bail application in the city’s court hall number 34, whose hearing has been postponed till September 7.

At his presser, the city police chief said the CCB had registered a suo motu FIR in the Cottonpet police station, following which Ravishankar and Rahul Shetty were arrested.

Rahul Shetty is said to be a real estate agent who has visited many countries.

During their interrogation, it was revealed that both Rahul Shetty and Ravishankar were obtaining drugs from a foreign national staying in Bengaluru. The police are on the lookout for him.

Pant said, “Our personnel, on a tip-off, were tracking Ravishankar, who is seen during big parties in the city. It was found that Ravishankar was working as a clerk in the Jayanagar RTO office. We had confirmed information that drugs were consumed in a party attended by him.”

“Ravishankar was taken into custody and his cellphones were confiscated. He revealed that he was attending many parties in the city where drugs are consumed. Based on his confession, we will be investigating several persons,” the city police chief said, adding that “everything cannot be revealed at this stage.”
