Dunhill, Benson & Hedges cigarettes were smuggled from Sharjah
BENGALURU:
Customs officials have seized foreign cigarettes worth Rs 23.97 lakh which were smuggled into the city. Based on a tip-off, the officials intercepted 8 boxes that had arrived at the airport from Sharjah.
The contraband was discovered when the boxes were subjected to an X-ray scan. Officials found 1,59,800 cigarettes worth Rs 23.97 lakh.
The customs tweeted: “Based on specifc information, the customs intercepted 8 boxes arrived from Sharjah. Open examination after an initial X-ray scan resulted in seizure of Dunhill and Benson & Hedges cigarettes (1,59,800 sticks of ₹23,97,000/-(approx).”
