In a bid to influence the upcoming elections in Taiwan, China pressurised a popular Taiwan-based band, Mayday, to declare that China and Taiwan belong to the same country ahead of Taiwan’s elections in January 2024, CNN reported on Thursday. Taiwan security officials have also claimed that China’s investigation into alleged lip-synching by the band may be linked to attempts to influence the election.
