Bengaluru: B.Y. Vijayendra, the state president of the BJP, has described the walkout by the Karnataka Assembly Speaker UT Khader as a dark chapter in the history of the assembly, expressing frustration over the Congress government’s irresponsibility. In a social media post, Vijayendra stated that the Speaker’s departure from the session highlights the ineffectiveness of the state administration. He criticized the Congress-led government for failing to provide answers to questions raised by legislators, claiming it has shown a lack of respect for the assembly and is mired in its own political issues.
Despite the Speaker issuing four warnings, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, and other ministers have reportedly ignored these alerts, with government officials also displaying indifference. Vijayendra questioned whether the ideals of the Constitution are alive in the state under Congress rule, asserting that the government’s inaction not only disrespects the Speaker’s position but also betrays the democratic values upheld for the state’s 70 million residents.
When the Speaker walks out, democracy itself walks out.

It is a matter of great shame that for the very first time in Karnataka's history, the Speaker himself walked out of the Assembly. Speaker UT Khader was pushed to his breaking point, not by us, the Opposition, but by his… https://t.co/ivJ0enQrUs
He argued that the Congress government lacks the moral right to remain in power, as ministers fail to attend assembly sessions or provide answers when they do. This ‘arrogant governance’ has frustrated both legislators and the Speaker. Vijayendra insisted that mere dialogue sessions are insufficient; the government must apologize to the public for its ministers’ misconduct.
He emphasized that the legislative assembly is paramount in a democracy, and the Congress government is responsible for the disrespect shown towards it. He urged the state government to awaken from its slumber and provide written responses, restoring the dignity of the Karnataka Assembly Speaker’s office. He vowed that the BJP’s fight against the poor governance of the Congress will not cease.
