BENGALURU: The Karnataka High Court has issued an order suspending bike taxi services and has instructed the government to establish regulations within three months. This ruling comes as a blow to two-wheeler taxi operators, as the court has deemed it necessary for proper rules to be in place before these services can resume.
The High Court of Karnataka dismissed a petition that sought to prevent the state government from banning two-wheeler taxis. Justice B M Shyam Prasad, presiding over the case, stated that popular bike taxi services such as Ola, Uber, and Rapido must halt their operations within six weeks due to the absence of necessary regulations.
The court emphasized that without proper rules in place, two-wheeler taxis cannot be permitted to operate. In response to this ruling, the state government has been directed to develop the required regulations within the next three months. This decision underscores the importance of ensuring the safety and legality of bike taxi services in Karnataka.
