Bengaluru: A disturbing incident in Bengaluru has sparked outrage after a Rapido bike taxi rider was allegedly caught on video slapping a female passenger. The incident, which followed an argument over reckless driving, is now under investigation by local police.
According to authorities, the incident occurred on Saturday while the woman, an employee at a Jayanagar jewelry store, was being transported to work. Reportedly, the woman requested to end the ride prematurely due to the rider’s alleged reckless driving.
A confrontation ensued, with the woman reportedly refusing to pay the fare and return the helmet.A video capturing the incident has since gone viral, showing the rider striking the woman, causing her to fall to the ground.
Police intervened after the video surfaced, bringing both parties to the Jayanagar police station. The woman alleged that the rider was driving erratically and ignoring traffic signals. When she challenged his behavior, a heated argument escalated, culminating in the assault. While police attempted to persuade the woman to file a formal complaint, she initially declined.
Despite this, a Non-Cognizable Report (NCR) has been filed. Law enforcement has also issued a notice to the woman, urging her to file a complaint so a First Information Report (FIR) can be registered, allowing for a full investigation.
“The woman has not given any complaint in this regard. So, we have filed a Non-Cognizable Report (NCR) in this matter. The rider has been questioned in this regard and legal action will be taken as per law,” stated Lokesh B Jagalasar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South).
As of now, Rapido has not released an official statement regarding the incident.
This is a developing story and we will continue to provide updates as they become available.
