Bengaluru Bust: Nigerian Woman Arrested with ₹10 Crore MDMA Haul

Date:

Bengaluru: Bengaluru police have apprehended a foreign national in connection with a drug trafficking case, seizing a staggering 5.3 kilograms of MDMA crystals, valued at an estimated ₹10 crore (approximately $1.3 million USD).

The arrest, made on Friday, June 10th, highlights the ongoing efforts to combat drug peddling within the city. The suspect, identified as a Nigerian woman, was apprehended following a tip-off received by the Central Crime Branch’s anti-narcotics unit. She was allegedly attempting to sell the drugs in Tarahunase village, near Rajanukunte, when officers intervened.

During interrogation, the woman claimed to have arrived in New Delhi on October 4, 2021, on a student visa, intending to study at a Telangana college. However, authorities discovered she was not enrolled at the institution.

“The suspect confessed to turning to drug peddling, along with an accomplice, due to financial constraints preventing her from maintaining a ‘lavish lifestyle,'” explained a senior police officer.

She concealed the MDMA crystals within new fabric pieces, transporting them from Delhi to Bengaluru by bus to supply local dealers. A case has been registered at the Chikkajala Police Station, and the search for the woman’s accomplice is currently underway.

Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh addressed the press, stating, “We have seized MDMA worth ₹10 crore in the international market from a foreign national arrested in this drug peddling case. Our initial information indicates she arrived in Delhi a few years ago and transported the consignment to Bengaluru. The investigation will now focus on determining how such a large quantity of drugs was transported from such a distance.”

Commissioner Singh also announced a major rally planned for June 26th to commemorate the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Seminars and workshops will also be held to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse.
