Night curfew being strictly implemented: Bengaluru police chief Kamal Pant

BENGALURU:

Expressing concern over the recent increase in Covid-19 infections in the city, BBMP Chief Commissioner Gaurav Gupta has instructed civic officials to enforce government measures with the help of the police.

Addressing a virtual joint meeting of BBMP and the police department on Wednesday, Gupta said that in average 150-200 Covid-19 cases were being registered in BBMP limits everyday. However, in the past 3 days, the figure has gone over 250 and it is necessarary to curb this trend.

The regulations issued by the state government must be enforced strictly, he said. Restaurants, pubs and clubs should only be allowed to operate with 50% seating capacity. Personnel working there must have an RT-PCR negative certificate, be double-vaccinated and follow Covid- appropriate behaviour. Only customers should be allowed entry, Gupta said.

‘No’ to NY celebrations

The civic chief called for ensuring that no New Year celebrations take place in public places, and public announcements should be made accordingly. Action should be taken by BBMP officials and the police against people failing to adhere to Covid-appropriate behaviour, he added.

Gupta tasked his team with educating people about the government regulations by conducting meetings with Residents’ Welfare Associations and paying guest owners, and at hostels and markets.

New Year celebrations after 10 pm should not be allowed anywhere in the city and strict action should be taken if any such cases are found, he said.

BBMP Administrator Rakesh Singh said, “We have to have a balanced approach towards people and enforcement. The situation is of great concern and the enforcement of rules is necessary.”

City Police Commissioner Kamal Pant said the night curfew after 10 pm was being enforced strictly in the city to control the spread of Covid-19.

BBMP Special Commissioner (Health) Dr Thrilok Chandra, all zonal Commissioners and Joint Commissioners, Additional Commissioners of Police Murugan and Soumendu Mukherjee, Deputy Commissioners of Police, the Chief Health Officer and all zonal Health Officers were present.
