BENGALURU: During a lengthy meeting on a Saturday evening, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) chief commissioner, Tushar Giri Nath, strongly criticized officials for their lack of efficiency. Nath emphasized the importance of prioritizing public concerns and resolving issues promptly. He expressed his disappointment by suggesting that Zonal Commissioners (ZCs) who are unable to fulfill their duties effectively should request transfers and leave the BBMP.

Nath highlighted that the ZCs are neglecting public complaints and appear to be more focused on other matters. He noted that the ZCs seem to be under the influence of local MLAs and other leaders, as they are hesitant to take necessary actions. Nath urged the ZCs to refocus their efforts on serving the public and fulfilling their responsibilities within the BBMP.

Within the BBMP limits, there are eight zones overseen by Tushar Giri Nath, who has ensured that these zones are led by IAS officers. This strategic move aims to provide these officers with valuable experience in handling civic issues while working in the state capital.

The exposure gained by these officers under senior IAS officers in Bangalore, along with the hands-on experience in addressing minute level issues in Bengaluru, will prove invaluable when they are assigned as deputy commissioners in various districts. Unfortunately, it appears that things are not going smoothly in Bengaluru City, according to an anonymous official.

Tushar Giri Nath is leveraging his expertise in managing Bengaluru’s water supply and sewerage system, as well as his experience in the energy sector and urban development department to address civic issues. He has handpicked a group of junior IAS officers to benefit from this experience and apply it to their future roles in different sectors.

However, there seems to be a lack of officials who can keep up with Tushar Giri Nath’s pace in clearing files and monitoring ongoing city projects. Despite his successful tenure as BWSSB Chief and now as BBMP chief commissioner, Tushar Giri Nath is striving to improve Bengaluru’s infrastructure and transform it into a pothole and garbage-free city. Yet, he is facing challenges due to the slow progress of his junior colleagues.

“Zonal Commissioners (ZCs) are neglecting people’s complaints and are preoccupied with other matters. They seem to have become puppets of local MLAs and other leaders, lacking the courage to take action. If ZCs are unable to fulfill their duties, it is suggested that they request transfers and leave BBMP,” Tushar Giri Nath reportedly expressed his frustration .

Tushar Giri Nath expressed his disappointment with the complete lack of cooperation among officials. “There appears to be a lack of coordination among ZCs, JCs, and CEs. No one is willing to take responsibility, and the zone heads (JCs and CEs) are not even listening to the Zonal Commissioner’s. The absence of coordination between zonal commissioners, joint commissioners, and chief engineers is hindering progress. It is essential for all three parties to work together harmoniously for the city’s improvement. However, they are all deflecting responsibility,” as mentioned by Nath during the meeting.

Tushar Giri Nath was reportedly addressing issues related to garbage and potholes following a meeting with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday evening.
